In 1989, J. Hirtle and his family would begin a life in the majestic
beauty of Soldotna, Alaska. The splendor of the Last Frontier would soon
lose its appeal when Jim’s wife would begin her journey on a life
addicted to prescribed painkillers. Attempting to flee the ravages of
addiction, Jim would move his family across the country on two different
occasions. Attempts to regain the solidarity of his family were
thwarted by willing doctors and the easily acquired prescriptions at
each new location. Finally realizing that fleeing was not the cure, Jim
turned to God and scripture for the answer. Going Numb recounts the struggles of addiction, his walk with Christ Jesus, and the mercy and grace of God.
